Glossary and Definitions

Ever wonder if we're speaking different languages?  It happens!  Read on to learn more about our lingo đź‘€

Approval

Official, written communication (through Lytho) between the customer and Pledgemine that indicates a project is ready to be printed without further changes to any art or data.

Bleed (BL)

Printing/design term for artwork going to the edge of the piece and “bleeding” over. This is trimmed on the final product so the piece has full coverage.

BRE

“Business Reply Envelope” - Typically included with mailings for the donor to send back a gift with the postage already paid. Requires a  BRM ("Business Reply Mail") permit from USPS.

Catalog

A design level offered for a project where the customer picks a pre-designed piece from Pledgemine’s Design Catalog.

CRE

“Courtesy Reply Envelope” - Typically included with mailings for the donor to send back a gift. The donor needs to apply their own stamp.

Custom

A design level offered for a project where the customer sends content and Pledgemine creates a custom design based around that content.

CYE

Calendar Year End.

Dash/Dashboard

Your Pledgemine Dashboard (Dash) - An online portal where customers can upload content, track projects, proof and edit data on uploaded orders. Customers can also find postage fund account balance here!

Design Level

An option of design service chosen by the customer for each individual project (see also Catalog or Custom).

Drop Ship

Packing and mailing a project directly to a customer instead of Pledgemine mailing to the recipients.

EOCY

End of Calendar Year.

EOFY

End of Fiscal year.

First Class (FC)

The fastest mail class sent through the Postal Service for regular mail. Delivery times average 2-3 days.

FYE

Fiscal Year End.

Lytho

An outside service used by Customer Operations to facilitate customer digital proof exchange and project management.

No Bleed (NB)

Printing/design term for artwork NOT going to the edge of the piece.  The final product will not have full coverage.

Non Profit (NP)

A mail class where authorized non-profit organizations can send through the Postal Service at reduced non-profit postage rates. Generally used in cases where speed of mail delivery is less important. The average delivery is 1-3 weeks.

OmniChannel

A strategy where communication is sent to the recipient using multiple channels (such as email, mail, web ads) based on their past behavior. Pledgemine offers services to design digital assets to use in omnichannel communication.

On-Demand

Projects that are sent multiple times per year in small batches. Enables requests submitted through Pledgemine Dashboard. These orders are processed daily.

Perf

Short for perforation. Small holes punched in a sheet of paper so that part can be torn off easily.

Rocket Lane

Our project management software tool.

Score

A ridge that is indented into the paper where the fold line will occur. Used to keep the print from “cracking” at the fold line.

Seed

Many customers “seed” themselves in mailings. This is the process of adding themselves and others to the mailing list to ensure that they receive the same mailers distributed to their donors.

Segments

Segments are defined as variable text and images that populate within the context of a design. They are a way for you to introduce personalization to various audiences without developing new designs for each.

Here are some examples: A project has the same layout in the design, but one segment has pictures of Cats and requests donations for the Sleepy Cat Fund, but the other segment has pictures of Dogs and requests donations for the Zoomy Dog Fund.

A set number of segments comes with your plan so there are no additional charges unless you go over that number!  Making a project segmented will take more preparation, but it's how to use us to the fullest đźŽ‰ Want to learn more?  Check out this article!

Units

Try thinking of units like your printing bank; we take units out for printing and set up.

More units = more $. Your specific $ to Unit cost is on your contract.
